Emily and Sean’s wedding was an extra special one for me, because not only was the wedding in Kansas City where I grew up, but Emily is also my cousin! Emily and Sean actually attended Cody’s and my wedding, so it was an absolute privilege to spend the day celebrating with them, too!
Emily and Sean’s Kansas City wedding took place at The Home Place at Valley View, a gorgeous rustic-chic venue just north of the Missouri River outside of downtown. While Emily had her hair & make-up done in the bridal suite, Sean & his groomsmen were getting dressed and playing pool in the groom’s suite. Sean had some more fun with his groomsmen when he gave them special gifts with bottles of Smirnoff Ice (subsequently “icing” the guys, so they had to kneel and chug).
Then the couple exchanged letters and gifts, which were incredibly heartwarming moments to witness and made their first look even more meaningful. Emily also had a first look with her dad before her first time seeing Sean, and then we brought the whole wedding party out for photos! We finished all of their wedding party and family formals before their ceremony so that after they were married we could sneak the two of them off to have a moment to themselves and to take photos of just the two of them.
Emily and Sean’s ceremony was at the top of a hill overlooking the Missouri River bottoms. After a mostly cloudy morning, the sun popped out to say hello! After a beautiful sand ceremony and vows, the happy couple walked down the hill and we captured photos of the two of them in one the farm’s working barns (we met a super sweet orphaned cow named Annie, too)! I am not a country girl. At. All. But I totally squealed after climbing to the loft of this barn to shoot. The back of the loft had some small windows with gorgeous rays of light shining in through the barn dust, and we captured some ABSOLUTE magic with Emily and Sean back there!
After their entrances into the reception, Emily and Sean had some wonderful toasts from their family and friends followed by a delicious bbq dinner (KC BBQ for the win!) For dessert they served delicious, tiny bundt cakes, and then it was time to dance! After Emily and Sean’s first dance and then dancing with their parents it was time for the bouquet and best garter toss I’ve ever seen. Sean performed a nice, little dance for his new wife, and as he went to retrieve the garter he found only a Smirnoff Ice, perfect payback for his earlier gift to his groomsmen. After this amazing prank, this group was ready to party and proceeded to dance the night away!
Emily and Sean’s wedding day was an absolute blast, and I wish them all the happiness in the world for their marriage!
