I hate the St. Louis cold, but I do really love shooting in the winter. Winter engagement sessions let me take fun, cute couples and cuddle them up into this warm, happy, lovey scene so that we forget that we’re outside freezing our asses off. Sometimes we take a beer break inside and then warm up by a fire. Megan & Colleen’s session was one of those times. Their session took place on one of my few Sundays off from having a Chiefs game to watch, so we hit all the stops: The Grove, Rockwell Beer Co., & the new St. Louis Wheel!
Honestly, it wasn’t that cold for the middle of November. But it was cloudy, windy, and still kinda cold. We started Megan & Colleen’s engagement session in The Grove and took a nice, little stroll down the street. We wandered around, chatting and laughing together, and stopping whenever I saw a cool plant or graffiti to shoot in front of (it’s what I do). Since we’d planned for a lot of outdoor photos, we chose our next location strategically to warm up and refresh!
Rockwell was the perfect choice for our second location, mostly because they have delicious beer! Megan & Colleen grabbed some beers and took a quick break from photos while we hung and got to know each other, then we moved outside to Rockwell’s awesome fire pit for a few more photos. Even though we didn’t get a sunset thanks to the clouds, the last bits of light coming through gave us a really dramatic sky that contrasted really well with the warm glow of the fire and this sweet couple cuddled up together on a bench.
If you’ve driven down I-64 in the last few months, you’ve seen one of St. Louis’ newest attractions and our next location for Megan & Colleen’s engagement photos: The St. Louis Wheel. After marveling at the colorful, new Wheel and a quick wardrobe change, we had a ton of fun finishing up our session! The colors on the Wheel changed with each shot and gave us a really great and unique backdrop for them to laugh, hug, and of course, kiss under. Luckily, we finished shooting right as the rain started, too!
These two wanted a “St. Louis” look and feel for their photos, and I think we nailed it in a non-traditional and very “them” way. Megan & Colleen’s Grove and St. Louis Wheel engagement session also gave us a great chance for us to get to know each other before their wedding this fall (plus, they are so fun!), and I can’t wait to capture the next chapter of their love story!
