I’ve never been a light packer for trips. As any of my past wedding couples will tell you, I always have a back-up plan, and my back-up plan has its own back-up plan. I am the same way with my suitcase and everything I bring when travel, and that goes doubly when my camera gear is involved. So, yes, my second shooter and I were a ridiculous scene trudging through the airport with all of our giant bags full of lenses and light stands and accessories–but it was all worth it for Tay and Andrew’s fun, geeky wedding in Baltimore!
Tay and Andrew live in the Baltimore area, so while this was a destination wedding for me, they were right at home! They chose Main Street Ballroom in Ellicott City for their venue, and it was the perfect space to host their wedding day from start to finish! Each spouse had their own getting ready suite in the venue to prepare for the day, so it was a relaxed and quiet atmosphere for both of them. They wanted to do a first look and take their portraits before their ceremony, which definitely made the day much easier since they had one location for the ceremony and reception.
They chose such a cozy and picturesque area to celebrate their wedding, and I had a lot of fun exploring and scouting locations for photos the day before! While it rained off and on the day before their wedding, Tay and Andrew lucked out with a beautiful spring day to celebrate their nuptials! We had a blast walking around the area with their wedding party, and then we took a nice stroll down the street for some alone time for photos with the happy couple. For a couple who claimed to not really be big on photos, they ABSOLUTELY NAILED IT, and these two look so perfect together and so full of love!
Even after having a first look, Tay and Andrew were so full of emotion and elation as Tay walked down the aisle toward her soon-to-be husband. They had a beautiful, intimate indoor ceremony officiated by Tay’s uncle that was filled with so many amazing puns and nerdy references that I almost couldn’t contain myself behind my camera. After sharing their incredibly sweet and personal vows, Tay and Andrew exchanged rings and shared their first kiss as a married couple before walking back down the aisle to begin their cocktail hour and reception.
I’m being 100% honest when I say that I have never seen so much thought, care, and love go into wedding details as I did with Tay & Andrew’s wedding. They combined two of their passions, Disney and Legos, to create a celebration that was so unique and authentic to them. Their escort cards were Lego figures, their centerpieces were Mickey hats with a different Disney ride or attraction for each table, and their cake–of course it was Star Wars! Once the reception began it was a night full of fun, laughter, and dancing; so we definitely had to end it with a bang!
The whole giant wedding photo kit I brought with me got put to great use. Tay and Andrew brought their lightsabers along with them, as any good Jedi would, so we set up some epic photos of the two of them in all their magnificent geeky glory! Mad props to their DJ who had the Star Wars music queued up and ready to go as soon as the lightsabers were turned on! It was the perfect way to end a perfect wedding day.
